African Youth Savings Groups: A Pathway for Economic Strengthening Through Savings and Decent Work

WEI/Bantwana conducted preliminary research to better understand youths’ preferences and motivations to save. The findings from this research informed the development and study of two savings models supported by AYEDI: youth-led savings groups and caregiver savings groups in Uganda. This report provides an analysis and evaluation of the two savings group models, examines effective mobilization techniques and retention of youth in these groups, explores the relationship between savings groups and hazardous labor, and examines gender differences in savings group participation.
