Monica Asekenye brings nearly two decades of professional experience to the role of Program Director, Western Uganda Bantwana Program. Monica has led the delivery of diverse projects with communities and civil society organizations addressing child protection, alternative care for children, education, capacity building, youth and women empowerment programs, and humanitarian response (in northern Uganda). Prior to joining World Education and Bantwana, Monica successfully led a team of professionals to implement the Deinstitutionalization of Orphans and Vulnerable Children in Uganda project (DOVCU), which reintegrated 1,743 children into families (84% from child care institutions, 12% from the street and 4% from remand homes), and mitigated risks of family separation across 12 districts in Uganda. Prior, Monica successfully implemented OVC and capacity development projects in Uganda with several INGOs, including ChildFund, OXFAM, and International Rescue Committee. Monica is passionate about working with children.
