Tom Haslett
Tom Haslett has spent his career managing equity investments for institutions and implementing social development programs in Africa and India. Tom’s investment focus has included large developed markets and frontier markets in Asia, Africa, and Latin America and now centers on the emerging “impact investment” trend. In 2002, Tom left investment management to apply himself to social development in Africa. He led a team to build a youth service program in Johannesburg, South Africa. After two years, City Year South Africa was launched and Tom shifted his focus to another development challenge in sub-Saharan African: vulnerable children infected and affected by HIV.
Tom was integral to the founding of the Bantwana Initiative and has served on the Advisory Board since its inception in 2006. In 2012, Tom joined with two friends to launch the Central Square Foundation, addressing the challenges of India’s K-12 education systems. Tom’s shared passion for investing and social development led him to explore impact investing. For the last ten years, he has been involved in several efforts to support the emergence of this nascent investment program.
