Helping Tanzanian Youth Develop Agency and Protective Assets

Helping Tanzanian Youth Develop Agency and Protective Assets

Implemented with 108 schools in five northern districts of Tanzania under the USAID-funded, Waache Wasome project, WEI/B’s Protect Our Youth (POY) Clubs model equipped nearly 17,000 students with essential skills and knowledge. Through an evidence-informed curriculum designed with student input, adolescent girls and boys learned to better engage with their education and establish life goals, develop skills to communicate effectively with peers and adults, make positive life choices, and prevent, respond to, and report violence. The inclusive and participatory POY approach has allows both girls and boys to examine unequal power dynamics and challenge norms that perpetuate gender discrimination and gender-based violence.
