Strengthening Local Government to Improve Uganda’s Child Protection System

Working closely with and strengthening government systems is a hallmark of WEI/Bantwana’s development approach. Under the USAID/Better Outcomes for Vulnerable Children and Youth program in Eastern and Northern Uganda, WEI/Bantwana strengthened Uganda’s child protection system from community to national levels by expanding the trained social welfare workforce, improving data driven planning, coordination and service delivery across multiple government departments and community social protection and HIV/health cadres, and building capacity of government actors to more effectively address HIV and violence against children (VAC), including GBV. This brief lays WEI/Bantwana’s approach and key achievements across 23 districts in eastern and northern Uganda.
